Mumbai Travel - Taraporewala Aquarium

This Aquarium is one of the India's oldest and one of the Mumbai’s main attractions from long time.  The aquarium contains variety of marine and freshwater fishes. The aquarium is located on opposite side of the famous Marine Drive sea face.
It was closed for renovation and had a grand reopening after its renovation on March 3, 2015. The newly renovated aquarium has a stunning 12-feet long and 360 degree acrylic glass tunnel.  Another attraction added to the aquarium are,  special pools, a unique concept where children can touch the  fishes which are harmless in nature. Sp it is safe and a unique experience for the children in visiting the aquarium. The fishes are be kept in large glass tanks, which are lit with LED lights all over.
There are approximately around 2,000 fish of over 400 different species in the aquarium. Its renovation cost sprang upto Rs 22 crore. There are exotic fish which are brought from overseas are kept in temperature controlled space. There are around 70 different variety of these imported exotic fishes. The types of fishes which the aquarium currently has are, Helicopter, Arowana, Gruppen, yellow-striped tang, blue-spotted stingray, star, clown, hark, trigger, Grouper, Moorish idol, Azure Damsel, Blueline Demoiselle, Purple Firefish, Cloudy Damsel, Copperband Butterflyfish, Schooling Bannerfish, Raccoon Butterflyfish, White Tail Trigger, Clown Triggerfish and Blue Ribbon Eel.
There are 40 new varieties of freshwater fish which include, Red Devil,Jaguar,Electric Blue Jack Dempsey, Frontosa and Catfish. These fish’s are kept in larger tanks than they were before as well as the glass quality and transparency is far more superior now. The aquarium also contains sharks, turtles, rays, moray eels, sea turtles, small starfish and stingrays.
There are varieties of other entertainment facilities in the aquarium. It is close to charni road station. For those who prefer other modes of transport, Buses, taxi’s private cars can also be taken to reach to the place.
